Operating in compliance with the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, our tree surgeons always wear the appropriate personal protective equipment. This includes items such as helmets, gloves, eye protection, high-visibility clothing, boots and any specialist equipment needed for specific work, such as harnesses for aerial tree surgery.
Another important legislation we adhere to as tree surgeons is the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1992. This lays out the responsibilities for owning and operating work equipment, keeping it well maintained and ensuring only personnel with the right training use it. This equipment can include stump grinding machinery or mechanical hedge cutters.
It is a legal requirement for chainsaw operators to have training in the use of such powerful tools, especially when working at height. We ensure all our tree surgeons have this training and the wearing of protective clothing whilst using chainsaws is fundamental. This can include safety helmets, hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, chainsaw boots and high-visibility clothing.

Following on from current Working at Height Regulations, tree surgeons must take further precautions to address potential hazards for aerial work. This includes performing risk assessments before climbing trees, such as unstable branches. Ground supervisors communicate with aerial workers continually whilst keeping a vigilant eye out for potentially dangerous situations.
